Neurotoxin injections can improve not only your confidence but your well-being. At DMD Dental, we offer treatment with Botox and Xeomin, two leading brands.
What is Botox & Xeomin?
Botox and Xeomin are neurotoxins, injectable products that weaken muscle activity in the treatment area. Both have seen medical use for many decades, but more recently, they have become popular cosmetic treatments. Botox and Xeomin are effective options for treating TMJ and TMD, temporomandibular joint disorder. It does this by weakening specific jaw muscles, preventing them from clenching and causing pain.
What are the Benefits of Botox & Xeomin?
Botox and Xeomin are very quick, easy, and effective ways to treat TMJ. They require only a series of pain-free injections that can produce results for 3-4 months – and can last even longer with ongoing treatment. Often, TMJ is made worse by chewing, clenching, and biting, which wear at the joint and cause inflammation. Botox and Xeomin can allow the joint tissues to heal by reducing the impact of biting, clenching, and chewing, treating the root cause rather than just addressing symptoms.
What Can I Expect From Botox & Xeomin?
Dr. Du Mond will assess your symptoms and perform a thorough examination of your jaw and temporomandibular joint. She will determine the appropriate areas for injection and then administer multiple small injections of product. Afterward, you can return to your daily activities.
The Botox & Xeomin Process and Beyond
Dr. Du Mond will give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure best results. For the first four hours, make sure to stay upright and avoid laying down or bending over. For the first 24 hours, avoid exercising and strenuous activity. Botox and Xeomin can take 1-2 weeks to begin producing results, at which point you may begin to notice an improvement in your symptoms. Dr. Du Mond will recommend other ways to treat your TMJ along with Botox and Xeomin. Results can last for 3-4 months, and it may take 2-3 treatment sessions to see significant improvement.
