Traditional dentures come with many benefits, but you may want a more stable and long-lasting restoration. At DMD Dental, we offer implant-supported dentures.

What are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures are dentures that attach to metal implants in the jawbone. This keeps the dentures in place, providing a better and more natural ability to chew and speak. Fixed dentures such as these can only be removed by Dr. Du Mond for cleaning during your hygiene appointments.
What are the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures are a more permanent and robust option than traditional dentures. Many patients dislike traditional dentures because of their fit and bulk. Implant-supported dentures function like natural teeth without the worry that they’ll shift or move out of place. However, implant-supported dentures require enough bone tissue to accept the implants, meaning bone grafts or a sinus lift may be needed first.
What Can I Expect From Implant-Supported Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures require multiple appointments. Firstly, Dr. Du Mond will take scans and X-rays to determine if you have sufficient bone for implants. Bone grafts may be performed if needed. Then, the implants will be placed into the bone. Dr. Du Mond may create temporary dentures to wear in the meantime to protect your treatment area and allow the implants to heal. Once the implants have fused to the bone and your dentures have been created, Dr. Du Mond will check their fit and put them in place.
The Implant-Supported Dentures Process and Beyond
Implant-supported dentures are long-lasting and may last for 10 or more years. You may only need to replace the dentures as they wear, not the implants. Care is essential to getting the most life out of your dentures. Make sure to clean them regularly by brushing and flossing, and avoid hard or crunchy foods. You may need to clean underneath them with special tools, as well. During your regular hygiene appointments, Dr. Du Mond will check their integrity and look for signs of wear or decay.
